dickies embroidered script flat brim

While I was at Coal Headwear in their Custom Headwear Division, one of our clients was Dickies. One project they came to us for help with was a flat brim snapback aimed at a Los Angeles-centric Lowrider culture. Many of the hat graphics we used with Dickies came from their internal team but I had the opportunity to spearhead this one, personally. Have been born in Southern California and raised in the Bay Area, I was particularly excited for the opportunity to work on this hat. I drew on both research and my own personal experience for this design.

I rooted the script in a Blackletter design and added calligraphic script elements to hit the unique appearance of lettering used heavily in and around the LA Lowrider culture. We were using raised 3D embroidery to execute the letters which meant I had to balance sufficient intricacy with a design that was able to be executed well with the less precise trim style.

I added a standard flat embroidery Dickies Ox-Collar logo to the left side of the hat for another stylish branded hit and to keep it in conversation with many popular flat brim brands and styles.

The design and style was a success - here you can see detail of the thickness of the 3D embroidery as well as the Ox Collar side hit.
